Cinco de Mayo History in Puebla

Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo, and while most of us will celebrate with a taco and a margarita, the origins of this holiday are honorable and remarkable. On May 5, 1862, the Mexican Army successfully defeated the French forces at the Battle of Puebla. I had the opportunity to visit Puebla, Mexico, and learned all about the history and significance of this day.

Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Costa Rica has become a hot destination as of late, with easy and short flights from the US to some of the most gorgeous beaches with the friendliest people. I first discovered Costa Rica in 2005 when I went on vacation with my family, and we all fell in love. Since then, my parents purchased (and have now unfortunately recently sold) a home in Peninsula Papagayo, allowing me to visit the beautiful country once or twice each year. This post is all about the western province of Guanacaste.

How To: Pick the Next Destination

My bucket list seems to be infinitely growing. As soon as I cross a place off, I add three more. For a results-oriented person, you would think this would bother me, but it’s what I love most about traveling. You fall in love with exploring and interacting with new people over and over again. It’s a “bug” that you just can’t shake.

Singapore

I felt there was no better way to start Jet Set Steph than with a preview of my home country, Singapore. I was born in this magnificent place and lived there for 10 years. I have been fortunate to go back and visit many times since, most recently when my brother moved back there for a short period. Each time I make the trip across the world, I am hit with a wave of nostalgia for my favorite places and flavors. And then equally with amazement and wonder as I notice how much has changed. While I may be biased, I always recommend adding Singapore to anyone’s bucket list!

My First Post

Welcome to Jet Set Steph! I am writing this blog first and foremost because I love to travel. Fortunately, this isn’t exactly a unique attribute anymore as more people are finding their own adventures and exploring this world.

I recently have felt compelled to share my experiences with the blogosphere to provide itineraries, advice and encouragement to book that next trip. At 27 years old, I have visited 32 countries and counting, and each place I write about will be a recent journey so I can provide the most accurate and up-to-date recommendations. I am a research and list enthusiast, and I typically sift through hundreds of sites to develop my own itineraries. I hope Jet Set Steph provides a more curated list for those looking to have a more local and fun experience in a new city.

I look forward to this journey together and would love to hear any comments or suggestions!
